绝望主妇 第一季

一部剧年份长了，主角之间就开始搞不清楚，情感纠葛永远是闪光看点。红线如天网，狭路相逢日久生情，是人就躲不过。紫藤街的男男女女都时刻准备着跳到一桩新艳遇中去。都是好收视决定了乱七八糟的感情线。

Bree是个苦命的人，Rex与Maisy Gibbons那一页刚翻过去，Bree就明珠暗投，掉进了George布下的天罗地网。识破George真面目，接着碰上了一个瘾君子。后来几经辗转认识了同样有洁癖的牙科医生，才算柳暗花明。不过Orson有他不光彩的一面，跟万人迷空姐有过一段野史，日后会不会旧病复发，谁说得准。Van De Camp家的孩子都不让人省心，Andrew正大光明地承认自己是gay，Daniel和Edie的侄子居然有了私生子。就现在来看，一个跟医生同居，一个嫁给律师，感情生活都不错，Rex在天有灵也欣慰了。

当初，Gabrielle和Carlos是合法夫妻的时候，她和小园丁John偷情。后来大吵大闹离了婚。Gabby答应嫁给模范政客Victor后，大喜的日子无意中得知自己竟是竞选工具，她脑子一热，开始跟Carlos偷情。John跟富家小姐订婚后，在岳父家经营的酒店重逢Gabby，又添了一笔小罪恶。Gabby还曾为了光鲜的晚礼服，挺身而出约会问题少年Zack。还有个小小的插曲，Gabby在家庭聚会上开玩笑地吻了Tom，另Lynette大为吃醋，为了礼尚往来，Lynette也回吻了Carlos，Carlos不但没有一笑了之，还去回访Lynette，没有娱乐精神。至于第五季Gabby变胖，Carlos失明，家里俩女儿需要照顾，大概因为前几季折腾得太累，心灵上很需要休整。

Susan的前夫Karl一出场就为了秘书抛弃了又傻又疯的结发妻子。之后两人分分和和，每逢他们同时心情不好的时候，就会找对方谈心，以便第二天一睁眼就能看到对方，平添自己的堵心。Susan自己也不怎么检点，在医院看望昏迷的Mike那会，顺便搭上了隔壁病房的Ian，Mike醒来居然还是跟她复合了，结婚了，可见Mike那次车祸之后留下了严重的后遗症，看不清该女的真面目。第五季一上来就来了油漆工Jackson，终于成功转移了蓝领控的视线，也让Mike能喘口气，跟懂事又会照顾人的Catherine开始一段新恋情，这样Mike肯定能活得更久更健康。不过看到queer as folk里的Brian跟傻大姐深情对望，总觉得是个很有喜感的画面。

Catherine也不容易，Sylvia千里迢迢跑来抢Adam，气焰不足动机却昭然，还好最后被飓风卷走了事。如今前夫成往事，不知道她跟Mike的遭遇会怎样铺陈。

在这个暗涌重重的社区，Lynette家有着难得的安定祥和，即使第三季出了个又帅又有品而且烧饭一级棒的Rick，似乎也就化作盥洗室里的一场怀缅，知己明朝成路人。Tom和Lynette的婚姻有四个孩子做后盾，加上Lynette的智慧和Tom的忠实，固若金汤。不过儿子就有麻烦了，Porter竟然爱上有夫之妇Ann，还计划私奔。如今Porter奸情暴露，惹上纵火的嫌疑，Lynette又要重装上阵拯救地球了。希望她依然好运。

SATC里，Samantha是曼哈顿的奇女子，紫藤街也有一位作派豪迈的女人。虽说Edie的智商情商运气都比Samantha略输一筹，可她直来直去，敢爱敢恨，也赢得不少人气——起码比Susan有人缘。Edie对爱情的态度非常勇敢，第一季跟Susan抢Mike，使出杀手锏烈日擦车，成为我印象最深刻的DH众生相之一。后来听说Susan要跟Mike同居，Edie抢先一步让Karl搬进自己家。第三季终于受不了Karl的不靠谱，转而打亲子牌攻陷Carlos，为保存战斗成果连上吊这招都用上了。最后还是一场空。还好Mike醒来第一眼看到了Edie，总算给了她收复失地的机会。某一集里Bree和Orson吵架把人家赶到街上，失落的Orson坐在门口，正巧Edie驾车经过，没寒暄几句就请Orson去家里睡沙发了。我当时一头冷汗，这些白眼的有妇之夫们是不会欣赏Edie的啊，Edie老收容无良浪子干嘛。第五季Edie携多金又热心的老公风光归来，可谓衣锦还乡，可是Dave已经犯下命案，在执子之手这条路上，他陪她走不远了。

紫藤街发生过很多情感纠纷，女人之间却没留下深仇大恨。大概女人是天生的政治家，懂得在亦敌亦友的平衡里彼此欣赏和激励，不走极端。所以超市里有人持枪喝令，Susan和Edie还有心情为鸡毛蒜皮拌嘴；窗外龙卷风呼啸，Edie和Gabby相拥着坦陈心迹；白马酒吧内火光和浓烟交织，Gabby扶着妄想用钱买走Carlos的Virginia安全突围。

插句题外话，主妇们平时一起打牌，喝下午茶，八卦家长里短，探讨怎么保持身材，如何教育孩子，这些在点滴小事里花的微妙心思，是男人们永远体会不到的。他们通常只在一起喝啤酒看球，能玩乐队已经是了不起的新花样，何况动机不纯。

第五个年头了。谁是谁的soulmate，谁又是过客，谁曾动了真心，谁耍了手腕，谁在紧要关头惊慌失措，谁力挽狂澜，谁志得意满，谁头破血流，谁让原本打算冷眼旁观的我们身临其境。生活波澜壮阔，剧本也一样，明天熟面孔又有新故事。敬请期待。

每集最末Alice的一段话总是很打动我，于是记下了它们。这是第一季最后一集的：

   I not only watch,I chew them on these amazing women,I hope so much they will find that they looking for,but I know not all of them will,sadly, that's not just the way life works, not every one gets a happy ending.
   以上一段话可能很好地解释了片名为Desperate Housewives的原因了吧。或许“绝望主妇”并不是很好的中文译名，不过，估计要找一个恰如其分的译名真的不容易，desperate, 很妙。

接连碰壁陷入绝望的马克-切瑞(Marc Cherry)遇上了同样焦头烂额的绝望不已的ABC电视网，绝望之余他们准备赌一把，结果就诞生了横扫全球的热门电视剧《绝望的主妇》——单单全美就有超过2000万的忠实观众，全球有130个国家以最快速度购买了它的海外播出权，连美国第一夫人劳拉都自称是一位绝望的主妇。
很快，中国的国家电视台也引进了该剧，并准备在一周内播完。（是不是打算在被有关部门叫停之前就自我了结？）这部被主流媒体称为反映了资产阶级富人们光鲜生活背后自私自利带来的绝望和痛苦的电视剧为何有如此大的魅力？
悬疑的故事情节+充满智慧的讽刺喜剧+四位充满魅力的女主角这一切的确是其成功的主要原因，但是在我看来还有更深层次的原因。
 
恰当的时机
《Friends》谢幕和《Sex and the city》收场意味着浪漫的友谊和激进的女权主义已经成了美国主流群体的过去式，“朋友们”和“女人们”终于都结婚，观众同样如此。但传统的家庭喜剧已经引不起当代人的兴趣，而类似《黑道家族》的后现代主义电视剧却受到越来越多的欢迎。《绝望的主妇》的第一集中就出现了谋杀、通奸和极端行为，而这一切就在风和日丽的高档住宅区的众多体面人之间发生，主角们的美语很纯，脏字和黄字很少，起着画龙点睛作用的画外音不仅声音甜美而且更是语言优美，这一切都引人入胜，随着情节的逐渐展开，观众越来越投入，而不断跟踪的观众调查也让剧组逐渐摸清了观众的口味。可以这么说，《Desperate Housewives》的走红有一定的偶然性，美国的电视剧市场就是这样，每年有无数剧集播了不久就被cut off，但是只要有一部出彩就会财源滚滚，《Desperate Housewives》的钱途无量。
 
现代婚姻危机的喜剧元素
戴安娜王妃消香玉殒暗示了王子和灰姑娘之间的悲剧，童话结束了，生活还得继续。现在结婚和离婚都很方便，看看小甜甜的婚姻吧，简直是一场无法收场的闹剧。有的人为了避免麻烦，干脆独身。《Desperate Housewives》中Suan的母亲和房产经纪人Edie就是两者的代表，但主角们不是这样的。她们依然渴望爱情相信婚姻，越是悲观的时代，她们就越受到人们的认同。但是现实生活常常让人窒息，《Desperate Housewives》放大了这种不幸——追求完美的女人无法创造完美的丈夫和孩子反而失去了他们，有着一群可爱孩子的母亲被家务和小冤家占据了生活的每一分钟，嫁了个百万富翁的美女靠血拼和未成年少年满足空虚，从小一帆风顺且拥有完美家庭的善良女人年过三十却被喜新厌旧的丈夫抛弃成为了单身母亲。这些不幸如果拍成悲剧会得个什么金奖，就像很多莫名其妙、哭哭啼啼的国产电影一样，但绝对不会有多少人要看。所以老美就拍成了喜剧，即满足了观众的同情心又不至于太让人受不了，但喜剧很难编，尤其是黑色喜剧，幸好美国人有自嘲的天赋，要是换成法国人或德国人绝对不可能拍上3集以上。《Desperate Housewives》巧妙的利用了人物的性格缺陷——Bree的爱面子，Susan的单纯（也有人说是“花痴”），Gabrielle的贪婪，Lynette的自我牺牲，将其置于一个又一个两难的境地，造成戏剧化的冲突，让人又爱又恨，又笑又哭。
 
恰到好处的煽情
《Desperate Housewives》的剧本创作是一流的，尤其是开头和结尾的画外音，构思巧妙，堪称经典。举个例子，Mike是一个完美的男人，充满魅力又有情有义，但美丽善良却不太聪明的Susan却始终和他擦肩而过，每次都有复杂的原因同时又让人惋惜，而这却很能抓住一些女性的心。最近的一集中，当Susan穿着婚纱追着Mike的车时不小心跌倒了，却依旧声嘶力竭地喊道"No, Mike, Mike! Come back! Come back!"时，画外音响起："Yes, every little girl dreams of a big white wedding. But some dreams just don't come true."没有大雨也没有眼泪和鼻涕，就几句话足以让未婚的MM眼泪水嗒嗒滴。又如一集中，不喜欢小孩的Gabrielle把子宫内婴儿的B超照片当茶杯垫，但是当她从楼梯上跌落被送往医院时，却在手里紧紧抓着那张照片，画外音响起："Most amazing of all, cameras can quietly and clearly reveal to us our dreams. Dreams we didn't even know we had."煽情的恰到好处！不过对于没有看过的人来说，结构上的巧妙只有在看了之后才能领悟。

中和的配角

《Desperate Housewives》的配角各具特点，奸诈的老太婆，让人讨厌的小孩子，尖刻的上司，古板的父亲和他抑郁的儿子，早熟的女儿，还有清一色溺爱儿子的母亲们。他们给我们的女主角带来了种种麻烦，也让她们某些极端的行为变得有情可原，减少了我们对她们的排斥。这里面最出挑的就是放荡直率的Eddie了，有很多人就喜欢她，她和Susan之间的针锋相对同时吸引了两类互相仇视的女人——好女孩和坏女孩。编剧的功力可见一斑。

绝望的是什么

陀思妥耶夫斯基的小说中对人类的绝望已经有了最好的描述——全是真相的生活比全是谎言的生活更难以忍受。主妇们平静的生活无法掩盖她们想要的和实际所得到的之间的差距，她们是坚强和能干的，所以她们就渴望更多，结果就不得不付出代价，最大的绝望在于她们就算知道这样却已无法改变自己的生活。绝望已成了现代生活的一部分，因为现代生活最大的追求就是“不断的成功”，而这和现代人无比神圣的“自我的解放”有着天生的矛盾，两者都是不可达的却又是我们无法放弃的，更为致命的是快节奏的生活使得我们不得不经常面对这种困境。


不是结论

《Desperate Housewives》对于一般人是一部惊险的喜剧片，外加温情和煽情。敏感的知识分子则欣赏其类似《傲慢与偏见》的反讽所带来的快感。当生活的荒谬被个人的自嘲所战胜，当女人们穿着“I am a desperate housewife”走在街上，21世纪好像真的开始了。

PS：《绝望的主妇》的编剧马克作为一个男人，却是创作女性题材剧本的天才。对此他坦言：“我是同性恋，所以我对这个问题更加熟悉。我从小到大都没有把女性作为欲望的对象，而是作为朋友和知己。女人们的种种经历总让我心驰神往，我能看见她们生活中内在的戏剧性，但只是处在旁观者的角色。” 这又一次证明了我的观点——真正懂得女人心的男人一定是个同性恋

In a world filled with darkness, we all need some kind of light. 观看一部电视剧，与观看一部电影，是完全不同的生命经验。

从篇幅来看，电影接近戏剧或短篇小说，只需要两三小时就能看完。

观看电视剧，更像是阅读一部长篇小说，它必须具有足够的长度，才能占据你生命中的一段时间。如果时间够长，故事中的人物就会走进你的世界，成为你日常生活的一部分，你的生命经验，于是就跟电视剧中虚构人物的生命经验有了某种程度的重合。

记得《老友记》和《海女》完结之际，虽然明知是虚构的故事，我却有一种怅然若失的感觉，仿佛剧中的人物是要分别的老朋友一样，于是不想离开那个虚构的世界。因为这些故事已经不再是故事，而成为我生命经验的一部分。

正因如此，我始终没有勇气看《绝望主妇》的最后一季，因为害怕离别。

前段时间重看第一部，还是非常惊艳，无论人物、剧作还是叙述风格，都令人击节赞叹。

上一篇写《最完美的离婚》时，谈到坂元裕二的剧作方式，是最大限度地做减法，将戏剧转折、矛盾冲突，都减到无法再减，只剩下最基本的生活素材。这当然是非常高级的手法，但几乎是难以复制和模仿的。

《绝望主妇》则是坂元裕二的对立面，两者处在故事坐标轴相反的两极，却在最大程度上，呈现了一个精彩的故事可以有多纷繁复杂、跌宕起伏。

这部剧展示出美剧编剧最擅长的，对于剧作结构的把控。虽然是做加法，但绝不是将事件简单地堆积起来，而是通过严谨的叙事结构来控制节奏。于是，就建构起一个充满戏剧冲突、但同时高度精密、层层叠叠的戏剧结构。


一、当代女性困境的戏剧化呈现

《绝望主妇》是一副描绘美国中产阶级家庭生活的全景图，虽然充满了戏剧冲突和巧合，但故事所呈现的当代女性的困境，却是真实存在的。女性的个体价值与家庭价值之间的矛盾冲突，日常生活的矛盾性和不确定性，通过一种高度戏剧性的方式，被展现出来。

通过四个性格各异的女性人物——完美主妇Bree、性感主妇Gabrielle、强势主妇Lynette、甜美主妇Susan，描述了婚姻关系、家庭关系的各种可能性。每个人物都有属于自身的困境——与家人的关系、对自身价值的困惑、对爱情的渴望、对孤独的恐惧，各不相同。

为了制造戏剧效果，编剧故意在人物性格和其困境之间，制造某种反差。Lynette曾是女强人，放弃了事业做家庭主妇，但偏偏不擅长做一个好妈妈，经常被几个淘气的孩子弄得手忙脚乱，狼狈不堪。Bree是追求细节的完美主妇，家庭生活各个方面都游刃有余，但家人却丝毫不感激她的付出而冷嘲热讽，丈夫也要跟她离婚。Susan是离婚主妇，性格甜美却做事迷糊，但偏偏有一个最聪明体贴最听话的女儿，她渴望爱情，但却总是阴差阳错地与缘分擦肩而过。Gaby拥有美貌与财富，能够自由的享受生活，但却害怕孤独，而丈夫偏偏经常忙于生意而不能陪她。

相信每一个已婚的女性，都或多或少能在某个主角身上找到共鸣。这部剧集能如此风靡，多少也因为其呈现的女性困境的普遍性吧。


二、类型糅杂与风格混搭

《绝望主妇》是家庭肥皂剧与犯罪悬疑剧这两种类型的杂糅，同时以喜剧的方式呈现。

当代女性的生活困境这一主题，被放置在一个犯罪故事的容器中，由此形成了一种具有反差性的独特风格。家庭主妇单调的日常生活的沉闷乏味，与扑朔迷离的犯罪故事的悬疑刺激，形成一种强烈反差，带来复杂的观影感受——轻松愉悦混杂着紧张恐惧。

故事发生在一个光鲜亮丽的美国中产阶级小区紫藤道，开场是一个幸福美满的中产阶级家庭，然而，伴随着Mary自杀的一声枪响，一个犯罪的故事主线侵入故事，带出主题——Everyone has a little dirty laundry（每个人都有一个肮脏的小柜子）。这是类型电影的典型开场方式，一个突如其来的事件打破虚构世界原本的平衡状态。

此外，《绝望主妇》也是传统情景喜剧和情节剧这两类剧集的混用。

《绝望主妇》在艾美奖申报的是喜剧类奖项，虽然不同于情景喜剧那种纯粹的喜剧段落，但《绝望主妇》中确实充满幽默的台词、夸张的表演以及喜剧的桥段，人物的很多困境也是以喜剧的方式来建构，因此具有高度的娱乐观赏性。比如Gaby的每一次偷情，都变成一场滑稽的躲猫猫游戏。

这种喜剧性当然也有弊端，就是或多或少消解了女性困境的现实意义，将其变成一场精彩的闹剧。

然而，这部剧还是在喜剧风格之外，保留了现实的某种残酷性，以黑色幽默作为日常生活残酷性的底色，以误打莽撞来化解犯罪故事的暴力。同时，混杂了悲剧的调性，这种悲剧性来自于女性在婚姻生活中无法回避的困境。


三、强大的四幕结构

《绝望主妇》最值得称道的一点，我认为其实是这部剧集的剧作。结构工整、精巧、缜密，特别是前几季，堪称一部编剧教科书。

每一集的情节密度都非常大，几乎没有一场多余的戏，每场戏都承担了叙事功能，层层递进，推动故事向前发展，叙事高度精密准确。

为什么这部剧集能建构出如此高效的叙事？一是多条叙事线保证了每一季的每一集都有足够的戏剧性，来撑起每一集的时长。二是将每一个戏剧事件用四幕剧结构呈现，保证了叙事有条不紊的展开，同时起承转合的剧作方式保证了每一个事件都足够精彩和跌宕起伏。

为什么有些国产家庭剧看起来冗长拖沓？这是因为30集围绕一条主线和一两条副线展开，即便故事主线的戏剧冲突足够强烈，但用30集铺垫这一条情节线，到后面就捉襟见肘，狼狈不堪。前面几集还是比较精彩，到后面就力有不逮，于是被迫开始插入各种狗血剧情，来拖住故事主线的推进。

《绝望主妇》则完全采用了另一种思路，这也是情节剧与情景喜剧两类体裁混用的好处。即，除了设置每一季24集的故事主线、副线之外，在每一集内部，又安排了几条故事线，并用严格的四幕结构来设置情节。

以第一季为例，来看这几条故事线是怎么结合并推进的，其中最关键的是单集副线的剧作方式。

首先是故事主线。犯罪谋杀（Mary 自杀的秘密）作为第一季主线贯穿24集，并在每集结尾处，设置一个剧情的钩子，吸引观众看下一集。这条主线的人物是Mary的丈夫Paul和儿子Zack、社区的闯入者Mike，这三个人物推动故事主线发展，制造悬念、引发暴力事件。本剧的一个独特之处在于，贯穿24集主线的人物，却并不是剧集的主角。

其次是故事副线。四个主角每人在这一季，又各自有一条情节线，形成人物发展的弧线。比如第一季是Bree与丈夫的离婚、Gabrielle与园丁的偷情、Susan与Mike的感情、Lynette在家庭问题上与丈夫的冲突。

第三是单集副线，这也是《绝望主妇》剧作上最关键的一个手法。每一集中，四个主角分别有一条故事线，可能是一件戏剧冲突强烈的事件，也可能是主角在生活中面临的一件小麻烦，但事无大小，每条故事线都按照一个完整的四幕结构来写，都有起承转合。于是，每一集除了故事主线的推进，都另外还有4个四幕剧穿插在一起，每个人物都不会脱离故事的轨迹。

以第一季第2集为例，短短43分钟，在Mary自杀秘密这一主线之外，还有ABCD 4条单集副线，ABC复杂，D相对简单。

A线是Susan约Mike吃饭，6场戏分别对应四幕。Susan约Mike吃饭（起）—Eddie强势加入晚餐（承）——吃饭时Susan为赢得Mike好感而让狗误吞了她的耳环被送去医院（转）——Mike讲述狗是前妻的宠物（合）。
D线是Lynette管不住三个淘气的孩子在车里打闹，有3场戏。Lynette因孩子不系安全带被巡警拦下（起）——Hubert太太给Lynette出馊主意（承）——Lynette把孩子丢在路边开车离开，回去发现孩子失踪，被胖女士责骂（转），孩子们推到女士，并迅速系上了安全带（合）。

这两条单集副线，虽然与人物在这一季的故事有一定关联，但却是自成一体，讲述人物遭遇某个困境，困境又通过何种方式被解决。

第四是单集次副线。每一集中，其他配角人物（比如Eddie、Huber太太等）也有一条行动线。

于是，每一集中，四个主角的单集副线，每人包含4-6场戏，共20场。加上本季故事主线剧情推进发展的3-4 场，次副线2-3场，一集就有将近30场戏。这种每集多个四幕结构，是一种近乎强迫症般的高效叙事方法，但却保证了每一集高密度的情节。


四、电影化的视听语言

电视剧自诞生之初，在形式上与电影有一个最大的不同。电影是视听的艺术，电视剧虽然也是视听艺术，但本质上更重视听觉。因为从功用上来看，早期的肥皂剧就是为了让家庭主妇可以一边做家务一边观看，于是重要的情节，一定要用语言对白表达出来。造成的后果就是电视剧在视听语言上，不像电影那么讲究，往往采用简单有限的机位、单调无变化的景别。这些在早期剧集中尤其明显。

然而，《绝望主妇》虽然是室内剧，场景多局限在室内，但在视听语言上，却是高度电影化的，一点也不单调，场面调度也非常丰富。比如每一集都有四个主角聚在一起聊天的场景。懒惰的国产剧，往往就是几个人物围坐在桌子前，通过简单的正反打，谁说话就把镜头给谁，来表现这场对话。而《绝望主妇》中，四个女主角聊天的场景，则设置了复杂的人物站位和人物运动，通过多个机位来做多角度复杂的正反打，并根据剧情和人物关系来选择镜头呈现对象。

人物运动、景别变化，为整场戏的视觉带来节奏感和动感，简单的对话场景也由此脱离了单调枯燥的电视感，而具备了电影性。

《绝望主妇》中，还有一种交待人物背景的独特表现方式，用一组蒙太奇镜头，并列在一起，交待人物的背景。这是一种特别华丽流畅的镜头组合方法，同时使得单个视觉画面内包含了最大的信息量。比如第一集开头，Mary为家人做早餐、洗衣服做家务、完成手工制作、取回干洗的衣服，用快速剪辑的一组镜头，交待这个家庭主妇最平常的一天。

另外，这部剧集在形式层面，最鲜明的一个特点是，采用一开始就自杀的人物Mary的旁白来贯穿始终。死亡使Mary作为叙述者，获得了一种无所不知的全知视角，类似小说中的全能叙述者。通过反讽的口吻和一种转折的叙述技巧，她随时插入故事进程，对人物的故事、心理状态进行讲述评价。

比如第1集Mary自杀后的旁白。「第一个发现我尸体的，是我的邻居Huber太太。她被这一声枪响打断，受好奇心驱使，她想到一个不请自来的理由。她决定把半年前借走的搅拌机还给我。」
在发现尸体后，Huber太太报了警。旁白继续，「然后，有那么一会儿，Huber太太静静的站在厨房里，陷入了深深的悲伤。但是，仅仅是数秒而已。如果说Huber太太有什么优点，那就是凡事她都往积极的一面去想。」对应的画面是Huber太太把Mary的搅拌机放进柜子纳为己有。

可以体会一下这段旁白中的一些措辞，比如「半年前」、「数秒」、「积极」，这些狡猾的用词，奠定了全片旁白的语言风格——带有分寸感的幽默反讽。

每一集结尾的旁白也写得非常妙，语言机智华丽，同时也是对本集剧情的一个总结性概括。

比如第三季第2集结尾的旁白：“你有没有遇到过完美的一对？灵魂伴侣，他们的爱永远不死；一对恋人，他们的爱情从没受到过威胁；丈夫和妻子，完完全全信任对方？如果你没有遇见过这样的一对眷侣，让我来给你介绍这么一对：他们站在奶油蛋糕上。他们成功的秘诀？——从一开始，他们就从不正视对方。”伴随着旁白，镜头一一展现四个主角和她们伴侣（对应旁白中那几句话：丈夫和妻子……），最后落在了奶油蛋糕上的一对手牵手的小糖人上（正是这一集Bree的结婚蛋糕，而她的结婚对象也有不为人知的秘密）。

这种由旁白形成的反讽味道，使整部剧集带着一种不动声色的讽刺意味，但同时，这个旁白作为四个主角的好友，对她们的处境感同身受，因而又包含一种怜悯和同情。这种怜悯与嘲讽混合的口吻，简直接近简·奥斯汀的语调了。
